Dear Friends

I am absolutely devastated by the Court of Appeal's decision not to quash the convictions and order new trials.

Lois, the family and I have already determined to fight using every means available to obtain justice. We will certainly be exercising the legal option of appealing to the High Court. Our lawyers are already preparing this appeal.

The media continue their malicious attacks with impunity, although I am now looking at ways of exposing their involvement.

Lois tells me that although the decision came as a shock to all of us, she has continuing support from our friends. I am starting to lose count of the number of friends who have sent me the "Don't Quit" card. Along with faith and prayer, I must believe that there is still truth and justice in our crazy legal system, which appears to be somewhat of a raffle.

The system is very slow and apparently has no answer to the malicious way the media moulds public opinion. That is why I am so appreciative of my family and friends, because in knowing me as you do, you realize and believe that the allegations have been fabricated.

The 592A hearing seeking a permanent stay on charges may go ahead on 10 September, and I will be using the advice of Alan Bennett and Anton Maher. They were shocked that their strong, well-prepared case on my Appeal was turned down by the Appeals Court.

I still find it incredible that a 45 year old woman can claim that she was raped as an 8 year old girl in front of a class of more than 20 students all of whom saw nothing. She didn't need medical attention and didn't tell a soul in 37 years until the police came to her and asked her to help in a well-publicized investigation. In addition, she claimed to have no memory, only "pictures" in her mind. How a jury could convict on this is unbelievable.

I really appreciate that so many people have been keeping in touch with Lois and the family, and giving them such great comfort. They are holding up remarkably well. I'm OK. I know how difficult it is to write a positive letter in a situation such as this, but please keep writing to me.

We are fighters and will not quit. Thank you for the great faith you have shown in me. I will never forget your support.

Your friend

Bill
